The Wheels Manufacturing SRAM Direct Mount 8-Bolt Gravel Chainring is a simple, well made upgrade for a modern 1x gravel drivetrain. Machined from 7075 aluminium and bolted straight onto a SRAM 8-bolt direct mount crank, it does away with a separate spider for a cleaner, more secure setup, and it comes in seven anodised colours if you fancy adding a bit of personality to the build.

The narrow-wide tooth profile is the part that earns its keep once the surface turns rough. Washboard, ruts, wet mud and fast, loose descents are all places a chain can start to move around, and the alternating tooth shape keeps it seated so you can get on with riding. The 6.5mm inboard offset sets the chainline correctly for gravel frames, and the teeth are cut specifically for SRAM 12-speed T-Type chains, so this is not the ring to pair with a Shimano drivetrain.

Four sizes cover most gravel gearing. 40T suits loaded riding and steeper terrain, 42T and 44T are the sensible all-round choices, and 46T works well if you spend your time riding quickly on flatter ground or racing. Weight starts at 99.5g for the 40T, so it is genuinely light as well as hard-wearing.
