These are the cleats for Shimano's new SPD-SLR system, used with the PD-R9300 and PD-R8200 pedals. The cleat was redesigned alongside the pedal rather than bolted onto an existing design, and that is where the system's lower stack height comes from: the cleat body is thinner through the rear section, which also makes walking in road shoes less awkward than it used to be.

There are four to choose from and the colour coding follows the same logic as SPD-SL, so if you know which SPD-SL cleat you ride you already know which SPD-SLR cleat you want. Red is fixed with no float, for riders who want the foot held exactly where it is set. Yellow gives 6° of float pivoting around the centre, which is the one most riders get on best with. Blue gives 2° of float pivoting at the front, for a more locked-in feel without going fully fixed. Grey is a floating cleat with a wider mounting range, which is the option if you want more scope to move the cleat position around, though it does not give the low stack height the other three do.

The system is cross-compatible in both directions. SPD-SLR cleats will work with SPD-SL pedals, and SPD-SL cleats will work with SPD-SLR pedals. Note that using the new cleats on a current SPD-SL shoe sole works, but the sole limits how far the cleat can move, so you will not get the full adjustment range until you are on an SPD-SLR shoe such as the RC910 or RC810.

Supplied as a pair with mounting hardware.

  • Colour coding carried over from SPD-SL, so the choice is familiar
  • Cross-compatible with SPD-SL pedals and shoes in both directions
  • Optimised floating surface for a more natural movement than the outgoing cleat
  • Supplied as a pair with fitting hardware
