The chain shifter on my old front mechanism snapped so I replaced it with the Shimano FD-M310 Altus 8-speed front mech. It was easy to install and setup.

Doesn't rub on chain in any gear but shifts quickly and smoothly (3x7 setup with matching new cranks). I've not had a new front mech for many years and the curves and shaping of the arms have really improved things over the older generations quite dramatically.
