Carbon frame, single ring, very wide cassette: the Silex 5000 is put together for going a long way from the nearest road. It uses the same CF2 carbon II frame as the bikes above it in the range, with a threaded bottom bracket, a 142 x 12mm rear axle and Disc Cooler fins behind the rear caliper to keep brake temperatures in check on long loaded descents.

The shape is pure Silex - a long top tube and head tube with a short stem - which puts you in a position you can hold for hours and keeps the steering predictable on rough, off-camber ground. Five sets of bottle bosses give you options for water or fuel on a big day, and there is internal routing if you want to run a dropper post. Tyre clearance is 700 x 45c, dropping to 42c if you fit mudguards.

SRAM's Apex 1x12 transmission is the drivetrain, and the gearing is the point of it: a 42 tooth Apex 1 Wide crankset in front of an XG-1275 10-52 cassette, with an Apex Eagle rear derailleur to keep the chain in place. That bottom gear is close to mountain bike territory. Apex hydraulic discs and a SRAM DUB BSA Road Wide bottom bracket complete the group.

Reynolds G30 rims sit on Joytech hubs with an XDR driver at the back, shod with 45c Schwalbe G-One RX Performance tyres with RaceGuard protection. The seatpost is carbon, and the Comp SL saddle uses 25% recycled material.
