The CF5 V carbon frame uses premium fibres and is the lightest in the range, but weight is only part of the story. The current shaping took a great deal from the Reacto aero platform, and a lot of development effort went into making this the most comfortable pure road race frame the brand has produced. Race geometry keeps the handling honest at speed, while internal cable routing, a 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 tapered head tube, a 142 x 12mm rear axle, a Pressfit 86.5 bottom bracket and a flat mount rear brake with Disc Cooler keep the build tidy and the braking consistent on long descents. Tyre clearance runs to 30c.
SRAM Red AXS runs the whole drivetrain, wireless front and rear, with a carbon 50-37 chainset that carries a power meter, a Red E1 chain and an XG 1290 E1 10-36 12-speed cassette on an XDR driver. The 10-tooth top sprocket and the small chainring steps give you a wide range with fine gaps, which is the combination you want when a climb keeps changing gradient. Braking is Red AXS hydraulic disc.
Zipp 353 NSW tubeless carbon wheels are the standout, with a 25mm inner rim width that gives the Schwalbe Pro One Aero Super Race 28c tyres a wide, stable shape, plus an integrated tyre pressure sensor so you can check pressures rather than guess them. A Merida Team one-piece carbon bar and stem, a Prologo Nago R4 PAS saddle on Nack rails and a Team SL II carbon seat post complete a bike that needs nothing adding.
