  • Big Nine 40 2027 Metallic Black (Red) / M

An air-sprung fork is the dividing line on a bike like this, and the Big Nine 40 is where the range crosses it. X-Fusion's Migo 32 gives 120mm of travel with a lockout, and because it is air rather than coil you can set the spring rate to your own weight instead of accepting whatever the factory fitted. It is the single biggest improvement you can make to how a hardtail rides. Behind it sits the TFS V frame in double butted 6061 aluminium, with a tapered head tube, full internal cable routing and chain stay mounted disc brakes.

Shimano's Cues U4000 1x9 drivetrain runs a 32 tooth chainset against a wide 11-46 SunRace cassette, which keeps steep climbs manageable, and MT200 hydraulic discs give reliable braking in all weathers. Kenda Booster tyres at 29x2.4 make the most of the frame's clearance, and the Comp SL saddle and Comp TR grips are a genuine step up in the parts you actually touch. There is enough frame here to be worth upgrading as your riding progresses.
