Description
The Maxxis Dissector returns with a host of upgrades that improve performance across the board. Most notably, the side knobs have been completely redesigned with a larger footprint and reworked sipes, boosting stability and predictability in corners especially on hard terrain.
The new shape resists deflection under load, increasing both durability and control. Side knob engagement is also quicker, giving riders a more confident, planted feel in turns. The centre tread retains the familiar 2-3-2 layout, but the centre 3 has been split into individual knobs for improved braking traction and better terrain conformity. Transition knobs have been pushed outward, creating a smoother, more consistent feel as the tyre leans over. Like the side knobs, the centre tread also benefits from revised sipes for enhanced grip and longevity.
These updates make the Dissector an even more versatile option for short- to mid-travel trail bikes. It excels as a front tyre on bikes with 130-140mm of travel, especially when paired with a fast-rolling rear like the Forekaster or Rekon. On longer travel bikes (150mm+), it serves as a fast, confident rear tyre in dry conditions
The tyre is available in different options. These are explained below.
Compounds:
3C MaxxGrip: this uses the softest rubber compounds to offer the ultimate in grip and slow rebound properties for unparalleled traction in downhill applications. Perfect for the front.
3C MaxxTerra: An intermediate compound configuration used in select mountain tyres. 3C MaxxTerra is softer and offers more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip. People often run a pair of this, or just on the rear with a MaxxGrip up front.
Dual Compound: Two compounds used within the tread of select tires to offer lower rolling resistance and increased cornering grip. This is not as grippy as the 3C options but the tyre lasts longer.
Casing Options
DoubleDown / DD: This is the next step in the evolution of the dual-ply tyre casing for enduro racing. Two 120 TPI casing layers reinforced with a butyl insert provide the enduro racer with the support and protection of a downhill tyre, but in a lighter package. Recommended for people on rockier terrain, more aggressive riders, and those that don't mind a bit of extra weight (ebikes).
EXO +: Our EXO+ construction combines two of our best puncture protection materials: SilkShield and EXO. The SilkShield layer runs from bead-to-bead with a layer of EXO along the sidewalls. Combined, these two materials create EXO + which improves tread puncture protection by 27%; sidewall durability by 51%; and resistance to pinch flats by 28%
EXO: An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tyres. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tyre remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high
