The Coast Trail 24 is the bike for the stage when riding stops being about the garden and starts being about actually getting somewhere. It's a light, simple, properly built bike on 24" wheels, with components chosen to make riding easy rather than hard work.

The Series 1 aluminium frame and matching alloy fork keep the weight down and the standover low, so getting on and off is straightforward and the bike is easy to handle at walking pace. An 8-speed drivetrain with an 11-34T cassette gives a genuinely useful spread of gears for hills without adding complication, and the Microshift short-reach shifter and kid-specific brake levers mean small hands can reach and use the controls properly.

Smooth-rolling 2.0" Marin x Vee Tire Co. Speedster tyres keep it quick on tarmac and settled on gravel paths and hardpack, which makes it just as happy on the school run as it is on a family towpath ride. It's a first real bike rather than a toy, and it's built to be ridden like one.
