Fabric Proof is a next-generation durable water repellent (DWR) that brings life back to kit which has stopped shrugging off the weather. Gtechniq has spent more than 20 years protecting automotive and marine surfaces, and the same smart surface chemistry now goes into a spray for jackets, tights, gloves, packs and shoes.
The headline is how little faff is involved. Most reproofers need heat to activate, meaning a tumble dry or a going-over with an iron, and a cure time of 24 hours or more. This one air cures in roughly three hours with no heat at all, so you can treat a jacket in the morning and ride in it the same afternoon. It is also PFAS free, which matters more with every season as the chemistry behind traditional DWR gets phased out.
Durability is where it separates itself. A typical DWR treatment starts fading after two or three washes; Fabric Proof holds strong water repellency through up to 10 wash cycles, and the performance has been independently tested to recognised textile standards. Breathability is unaffected, so garments still move moisture the way they were designed to, and the formula adds odour-control and improved abrasion resistance, which helps kit keep its appearance and colour for longer. The soft, natural handle of the fabric stays put too.
It works across all fabric types, from technical outer layers and bibshorts to cotton T-shirts, trainers and hiking boots. Pick the 250 ml bottle for a jacket or two, or the 500 ml if you are proofing a full winter wardrobe.
