  • DT Swiss 90 Tooth DEG Degrees of Freedom Upgrade Kit for Ratchet DEG hubs

DT Swiss upgrade kit for your ratchet DEG mountain bike hub (non electric bike).

The DT Swiss Degrees of Freedom kit has been developed to further push the performance of your DEG rear hubs. By Isolating the suspension and drivetrain, via reducing the influence your rear suspension has on your chain, pedal kick back is reduced.

  • DEG DF gives you control over how much float you want; with settings for 10 or 20 degrees of float, if you move your wheels over onto a hardtail or just prefer the feel of a standard 90 Tooth DEG hub, just set it to zero float, you have the control
  • Unlike other anti-kickback systems that add weight and complexity, DEG DF requires no more servicing than a standard hub and adds no weight over a standard DEG system
  • Extensively tested on the UCI Downhill and Enduro world series with undercover prototypes bringing home World Championship gold and multiple World Cup wins and podiums
  • Installation requires a DEG ringnut tool, once installed, changing between float settings is tool-free and can be done in seconds once the wheel is removed from the bike
  • Includes tube of DT Swiss special grease
  • Sold with or without Ring Nut Tool

Designed for standard non-electric bike usage, for the dedicated EMTB version please see HBDTN8719S - HERE

    Works as intended but...

I went straight for the 20 degree option but found the lag in engagement to be quite frustrating for technical climbing and to a lesser extent descending. Situations where you just want a little kick on the pedals to help get you up and over something were quite difficult. I'd probably get used to it and for purely downhill riding this may not be a deal breaker.

I ended up going for the 10 degree setting which seems to be quite a nice compromise. I do miss the high engagement a bit but the noticeable lack of pedal kickback is nice.

The other thing I would add is that there's no damping to the free rotation and when the hub finally engages it does so with quite a clunk. More noticeable in the 20 degree setting as you can get a bit of momentum going before it engages. I imagine the elastomers in something like an Ochain would make it feel more natural.
