  • Crombie Tool Thru Axle Dual Sided S Group Standard

The Crombie Tool is Abbey Bike Tools’ original design, conceived by pro mechanic Jeff Crombie to make checking lockrings and removing cassettes faster, and built by his friend and former mechanic Jason Quade.

Deceptively simple, the prototype began as a Shimano lockring with a hole bored through it, allowing it to slip over a quick-release nut without removing it. A welded handle provided extra leverage, saving precious seconds during bolt checks and preventing dropped skewers or nuts.

With thru-axles now common, Abbey developed a dual-sided version. One side removes Shimano and SRAM cassettes from regular hubs, while the other works with thru-axle wheels featuring a 12 mm fitment. A plus-sized piloting pin ensures a precise, positive fit, allowing easy engagement with both types of wheel attachment without damaging the tool or cassette.

Machined and welded from US drawn stainless steel, the tool is 9.63 in × 1 in (245 mm × 25 mm) and features a ½” diameter handle. The Standard version weighs 10.3 oz (292 g), offering durability and weight to stay centred when shifting stubborn cassettes. The Super Light version weighs 5.7 oz (164 g) with a hollowed handle, retaining the same precision while saving weight, capable of managing lockrings torqued close to 40 Nm.
