  • Matts J.24+ 2027 Black (Silver) / One Size

Same rider height as the J.24, roughly 129-137cm, but a different way of getting there. There is no suspension fork on the J.24+ and the whole bike comes in at about 10kg as a result. The thinking is straightforward: a cheap coil fork on a child's bike adds weight and rarely works properly, so the budget goes into a light aluminium fork, a double butted and technoformed 6061 aluminium frame and Maxxis Pace 24 x 2.10 tyres that take the edge off the ground instead. The flip-flop stem and spacer stack let you lift the bar as your child grows into it.

Tektro HD-J3120 hydraulic disc brakes come with short reach levers, which is the detail that makes the difference when a child is picking up speed on a descent for the first time. Gears stay simple with one Microshift Acolyte trigger shifter, a gear indicator and an 11-38 eight speed cassette on a 32 tooth chainring. The 600mm bar and 127mm cranks are sized for the rider, not borrowed from an adult bike, and there is a replaceable dropout in case of the inevitable.
